Proper and common nouns

Nouns are words that represent people or  things. If the person or thing referred to is unique or has a name, we call it a proper noun. Proper nouns always begin with CAPITAL LETTERS.

 

Examples of common nouns:

chair, book, university (when used to mention any higher level institution of learning), student, train, experiment, test

Examples of Proper nouns:

Names: John, Bill Clinton, Mozart
Titles: the Queen of England, the President of Finland
Organizations: Turku University, the United Nations
