The shape of the cheek patch suggests the Canada Goose, and that's about all
that points
towards a Canadian parent.
The bird has a pale bill, which points towards grey geese, but which one?
The default hybrid
and the most common one around here in Finland is
the Canada
x Greylag Goose. Despite
of the variability, these birds are usually
rather big and quite clearly intermediate between
the parent species.
This bird however did not give such an appearance. This bird was clearly
smaller than the Canada Geese, and the profile of the head (before the
colors were well
visible) was reminiscent of a Greater White-fronted
Goose (Anser albifrons). The white
forehead of this bird could reflect the white forehead
of the forehead of
White-fronted Goose,
although it is slightly smaller and of different
shape. The shape and the size of the bill fit
rather
a White-fronted Goose than a Greylag Goose
The exact color of the bill and legs suggest only that the other parent is an Anser.
Due to the faintness of B can features the possibility of
a trigen (Bcan x A ans) x A alb hybrid cannot be ruled out.
Note that there were
hybrid Greylag x White-fronted Geese in the Turku area
only a year earlier.

Poskitäplän muoto viittaa kanadanhanheen. Kovin paljoa muuta kanadanhanhea
linnusta ei
löydykkään.
Linnulla on vaalea nokka, joka viittaa Ansereihin. Mutta mikä laji voisi olla
emo?
Kanadan x merihanhi on suomen yleisin risteymämuoto. Muodoltaan ne
ovat isoja lintuja ja
emolajien välistä.
Tästä linnusta ei kuitenkaan tullut
sellaista vaikutelmaa. Lintu oli selvästi
kanadanhanhia pienempi ja linnun
pään muoto (profiilista ennen kuin värejä näkyi) toi
mieleen tundrahanhen.
Valkoinen alue naamassa voisi olla tundrahanhen otsakilpeä
(vaikkakin
hieman heikompana ja epamuotoisena). Nokan koko ja muoto sopivat paremmin
tundrahanhiemoon kuin merihanhiemoon.
Linnun koipien ja nokan tarkkaa väriä ei voine käyttää muuta kuin
osoittamaan että toisena
emona on anser.
Trigen hybridin (B can x A ans) x A alb mahdollisuutta ei voida sulkea pois.
Huomaa, että vuotta aiemmin, vuonna 2002 risteytyivät Varsinais-Suomessa
meri- ja tundrahanhi .
