The birds were apparently of the same family. It is worth to notee how much
the bill patterns vary individually (color of nail, amount of black,
amount of white at the base of the bill). The strength of the forehead
knob varied individually. Note that one bird has orangey feet while
the two other ones have pink feet.
The birds featured several commmon features. The rather lengthy bill is
quite different from that of a Grey-lag Goose suggesting
Swan Goose as does the dark vertical stripe along the
hindneck. The knob suggests a domesticated Swan Goose as one parent.
While swimming the birds have a high rear end, suggesting at least
partially domestic origin.
Hundreds of Grey-lag Geese breed at these lakes.
Linnut olivat ilmeisimmin samaa perhettä. Huomaa miten nokan väri vaihteli
linnusta toiseen (kynnen väri, mustan määrä, valkoinen nokan tyvi).
Otsakyhmyn voimakkuus vaihteli myöskin yksilöstä toiseen.
Huomaa myös että yhdellä koivet ovat oranssihtavat kun kahdella muulla ne ovat
vaaleanpunaiset.
Linnuilla oli monia yhteistä piirteitä. Merihanhesta poikkeava
pitkähkö nokka ja kaulan takaosan tumma pystyjuova viittavat siihen että
toinen emo olisi joutsenhanhi. Otsakyhmy viittaa myös kesyyn joutsenhanheen.
Uidessa linnuilla oli peräpää koholla, mikä viittaa siihen että ainakin
toinen emoista olisi kesy meri tai joutsenhanhi.
Näillä järvillä pesi satoja merihanhia.
