Professor of Mathematics.
Visiting researcher at LOMI (Leningrad) 1970 and 1988
Institute Mittag-Leffler (Stockholm) 1877-8 and 1981
Nihon University (Tokyo) 1993
Field of Research:
Analytic Number Theory.
Current research interests:
exponential sums involving the divisor function or Fourier coefficients of cusp forms (transformations, the "Farey-method" for the estimation of such sums),
the additive divisor problem and analogous questions for Fourier coefficients of cusp forms,
Dirichlet series: Riemann zeta, Dirichlet L-functions, automorphic L-functions,
spectral methods, the theory of Maass forms,
applications of a new variant of the circle method to cusp forms.
Professional activities and positions:
Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters 1982-
Member of the Editorial Board of
Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn. Mathematica
Coordinator of the Number Theory Year 1999 in Finland, organized by the
Rolf Nevanlinna Institute
Member of the organizing committee of the
Turku Symposium on Number Theory in Memory of Kustaa Inkeri
(from May 30 to June 4, 1999).
