CEWQO2009 is now over and we thank all those who were involved with organising the event, and the participants for coming to Turku. The post-conference page has a conference photo, more pictures and info about proceedings will follow.
Elsi-Mari Laine finished her M.Sc. studies in May 2009 and starts as a graduate student (supervised by Jyrki Piilo) on June 1st, 2009. Elsi got the highest possible grade, laudatur, for her M.Sc. thesis. Congratulations.
On March 14th, 2009 Kalle-Antti Suominen finished his two-year term as the chairman of the Finnish Physical Society (the new chairman is prof. Jukka Pekola from HUT), but he continues as a board member for one more year. In April he was elected as the chairman of the Physics and Astronomy section of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, for 2009-2014.
Michele Tumminello from Palermo visited us on March 16-19, 2009, as a part of the econophysics collaboration coordinated by Jyrki Piilo.
Several group members were awarded travel or graduate study grants by the Magnus Ehrnrooth foundation, on March 6, 2009.
