8.6.2004 Venus Transit

Venus approaches the Sun.
Images from SOHO satellites Lasco instrument C3.
Sun is covered by an occulter disk. Solar disk position is marked by a white circle. Lasco C3 image interval 6 hours, presentation interval 180 ms.
Venus approaches the Sun. Because of satellites position 1.5 million kilometers towards to Sun Venus does not cross solar disk in these images.
Images from SOHO satellites Lasco instrument C2.
Sun is covered by an occulter disk. Solar disk position is marked by a white circle. Lasco C2 image interval half hour, presentation interval 180 ms.

  • Observations at Tuorla Observatory

Telescope configuration which is used at Tuorla Observatory to witness the event.
Images are projected by two secondary telescopes. Used eye-pieces are Ramsden type. In this type of eye-piece there aren't any cemented elements which can collect heat and eventually break up.
Simulation of projected image with low magnification eye-piece.
