My main research interests focus on how the metabolome changes following a brain injury. The use of metabolomics is becoming widespread in the search for novel biomarkers for diagnosing and staging disease. However, the mechanisms behind these metabolic changes are poorly understood. My research specifically aims to explore these mechanisms in order to not only provide better diagnostic tools for brain diseases but also to identify new therapeutic targets. The metabolites are identified using a combination of analytical techniques such as NMR and Mass Spectrometry techniques and coupling these too multivariate statistical methods in order to identify the significantly altered metabolites in a disease state.
