Trinidadian Herons and Egrets

Trinidadilaisia haikaroita

All these birds were photographed by myself during my 1999 trip to Trinidad

Green Heron

Buteroides virescens

The status of this species is unknown in Trinidad, but it appears to be less common than Striated Heron.
Comments welcome.

Snowy Egret (right)

Egretta thula

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
A high breeding season plumage, what is red on this individual is usually yellow.

Snowy and Little Egret

Egretta thula and E garzetta

fighting each other. Shows the difference in the head plumes of these two species. Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.

Little Egret

Egretta garzetta

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
Two separate individuals showing typical features of a Little Egret.

What is this Egret (1)?

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
I would welcome comments on this bird. The picture was taken through a car window. The bird was in shape very snowy-like including bill structure, but showed a light yellow "facial area", noticeably lighter than other Snowys. The bird also had a SINGLE little egret like plume.

What is the Egret on the right (2)?

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
I would welcome comments on this bird, too. The bird on the left is a Little egret, but the one on the right.. It shows a yellow hase to the bill as well as the decorative scapulars turning upwards - both characteristics of a snowy. To me the bird however looks a little bit too little egret-like in appearance (thick long nech and legs, thickish bill)..

What is this Egret (3)?

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
I would welcome comments on this bird, too. The bird in the rear is a Snowy, but the one infront. It is quite similat to the next bird, but my recollection is that it is different.

What is this Egret (4)?

Trincity Sewage ponds, Trinidad, April, 1999.
I would welcome comments on this bird, too. I'm quite sure that the next four photographs show the same individual. The first and the second photograph show a hint of (a) crestal plume(s) Note the dusky yellow color of the feet in the 4th photograph. I have some thoughts of this bird, but I would really like to get unbiased (reasoned) opinions. I have not yet submitted any of these to the T&T records commitee.

The dirt on the back is on somekind of glue on the print.
