Figure 1. The bird above bird is a normal 1st winter Herring gull
Larus argentatus (likely to be of the race argenteus) except for
the unusual tail pattern, which shows a pale subterminal bar.
A similar pattern is apparent also along the wings and is best reflected
in the primaries.
