The photograph shows a dark duck, which appears to be partially mallard-type, possibly a dometic mallard. I'm not aware of this very kind of a dosmetic mallard (duck), although I would not be surprised is such a kind exists. It is possible that this bird is of hybrid origin. Superficially the bill coloration, leg color and the even coloration of the head and the long tail fit the African Black Duck (Anas sparsa), but other field marks do not agree. The bird appears to be a female, which brings into question the origin of the iridescent coloration of the mantle and coverts. Some suggested parents are mallard (Ana pla), wood duck (Aix spo), muscocy Duck (Cai mos). The bird had a weakly audiable call, and called almost continuously when feeding or chasing/being chased by mallards. It sounded like a very distant flock of geese - Greylag geese or Brants.

Kuvassa on tumma sorsa, joka ainakin osittain on sinisorsan tyyppiä. En tiedä että tämän kaltaista kesyä sinisorsan muotoa esiintyisi, mutta en olisi kovin yllättynytkään siitä. On mahdollista etta lintu on join risteymä. Päällisin puolin nokan ja jalkojen kuviointi, pään kuviottomuus ja pitkä pyrtsö sopivat afrikan mustasorsaan (Anas sparsa), vaikka muut tuntomerkit eivät ko lajiin sovikkaan. Lintu vaikuttaa naaraalle, mikä aiheuttaa hieman harmaita hiuksia selkäpuolen kiiltäviä värejä selitettäessä. Ehdotettuja emolajeja ovat sinisorsa, morsiosorsa ja myskisorsa. Kannattaa vilkaista myös toista mustahkoa sorsaa, jolla on joitakin samankaltaisia tuntomerkkeja, mutta jonka näin noin 2000kilsan päässä Ranskassa.

Lintu oli varsin heikkoääninen, mutta pajatteli tiuhaan kun sinisorsat häritsivät sitä tai kun se ajoi takaa muita sorsa. Pajatus toi mieleen erittäin kaukaisen meri- tai sepelhanhiparven.
