The bird was almost black and white. The black colors on the head had a
obvious green tinge, which is not very well reproduced by the scan.
Apparently a decade earlier a smew (Mer alb) had been flying around
the same area in summer time. No nest was found at the time, but this
hybrid was seen in 1994 and 1995.
