Research activities

I work as a researcher at Kela, Social Insurance Institution. My research focuses on family demography and fertility, family policies, wellbeing of parents and children, time use patterns in families and gender equality. I am interested in social differences manifested in various fields of family life and mechanisms involved. My background is in demography and sociology, including a long period of employment as a researcher at the Population Research Institute, Väestöliitto. My expertise is mainly in the register-based research, or research using quantitative survey data. Currently I am a PhD student at Turku University, and my doctoral study investigates socioeconomic differences in early phases of family formation.

At Kela, I am currently studying use of family leaves and families’ choices between different childcare arrangements, and their links to family wellbeing.
