I am a senior lecturer (a.k.a. ‘university lecturer’) at the Department of English, School of Languages and Translation Studies, University of Turku, Finland. I teach descriptive grammar, history of English and various linguistics courses. In my research I focus on contact linguistics and medieval English, particularly code-switching and other multilingual practices in England c. 1100 to 1300.
I am the author of Studies in Early Middle English Loanwords: Norse and French Influences, and many articles and book chapters. Moreover, I have co-edited several books: Multilingual Practices in Language History: English and Beyond; Verbal and Visual Communication in Early English Texts; Instructional Writing in English; Opening Windows on Texts and Discourses of the Past; Discourse Perspectives on English: Medieval and Modern; and The Language of the Peterborough Chronicle. I am a member of the Turku Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TUCEMEMS), the Turku University code-switching and language-contact research group, the Helsinki Society for Historical Lexicography, the Finnish Society for the Study of English and the Modern Language Society.
